Caracas, 28 dic (EFE).- Venezuela ha contabilizado este año 1.956 asesinatos, un 15,9 % menos que en 2022, cuando computó 2.328, según el informe anual presentado este jueves por la organización no gubernamental Observatorio Venezolano de Violencia (OVV).
Con este total, la tasa de homicidio se ubica en 7,5 por cada 100.000 habitantes, explicó el director del OVV, Roberto Briceño León, durante la exposición del balance ofrecido a través de la plataforma Zoom.
Además de los asesinatos, se registraron otros decesos con los que el total de “muertes violentas”, como las cataloga la ONG, se eleva hasta las 6.973, al sumar los casos de 953 personas que perdieron la vida por “intervención policial” y otros 4.064 fallecimientos que están bajo “averiguación”.
Este último renglón, indicó Briceño León, agrupa a personas que fueron abatidas por los cuerpos de seguridad o sufrieron accidentes de tránsito, entre otras causas, pero sus casos no han sido esclarecidos del todo.
Así, la tasa global quedó en 26,8 muertes violentas por cada 100.000 habitantes, casi nueve puntos por debajo que en 2022.
Entre las regiones más con más homicidios, Delta Amacuro (noreste) lidera la estadística nacional, con una tasa de 16,1, seguida por Caracas, con 13,4, y Sucre, ubicado frente al mar Caribe, con 12,6 asesinatos por cada 100.000 habitantes.
El investigador resaltó que dos cuartas partes de las muertes violentas registradas se mantienen como “de causa indeterminada” y que “las dos terceras partes de las víctimas de homicidios tenían entre 15 y 44 años”.
Asimismo, remarcó que en 37 de los 335 municipios del país las muertes por intervención policial fueron mayores que los homicidios, como en el caso de la localidad caraqueña de Baruta.
Venezuela registró picos de violencia en la década pasada, cuando llegó a tener una tasa de 90 homicidios por cada 100.000 habitantes o a contabilizar cerca de 30.000 muertes violentas en un año, una situación que empezó a mejorar en el último quinquenio.
